School Completion Programme

The School Completion Programme (SCP) is a Department of Education and Skills programme that aims to have a significant positive impact on levels of young people's retention in primary and second level schools. The SCP is a key component of the Department of Education and Skills' strategy to discriminate positively in favour of children and young people who are at risk of, or who are experiencing educational disadvantage.

Laois SCP is administered through Co. Laois VEC and works with students from the following schools in the Laois area:

  • Portlaoise College, Mountrath Road, Portlaoise
  • Mountrath Community School, Mountrath
  • Scoil Bhride National School, Knockmay

The SCP is a year round programme and offers supports for students Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and through the school holidays. The Programme works in co-operation with many other relevant agencies including the Education Welfare Board Officer, Laois VEC Youth Officer, The Block Project, The Juvenile Liaison Officer service, The HSE's "Le Cheile" mentoring service, Laois Sports Partnership and Co. Laois Sports Office.
