Co. Laois VEC operates three second-level schools in Portlaoise, Rathdowney, and Clonaslee. Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes are provided as well as Transition Year and alternative Leaving Certificate programmes.

Other services include career guidance, a number of sporting activities, both competitive and for interest, school twinning, and educational trips. Post Leaving Certificate courses across a range of subjects are also provided at Portlaoise College.

Co. Laois VEC is also joint trustee of three Community Schools in the county, namely Mountrath Community School, Mountmellick Community School and Heywood Community School.

A School Competion Programme (SCP) is also administered by Co. Laois VEC. The SCP is responsible for identifying and tracking potential early school leavers, and implementing supports to change this course of action.
