This course aims to equip students to meet the needs of a growing economy for personnel with business administration and information technology skills. Students will be introduced to the diverse aspects that comprise a business enterprise or other organisation. They will also gain an understanding of the concepts and processes of management. This course is specifically designed to facilitate students who wish to continue in education on a part time basis.
Modules
This award will be delivered over a number of terms starting in September 2009. It is made up of a minimum of eight modules but students may attend extra modules where these are available. Modules 1-4 will be delivered between September and December 2009. The other modules will be delivered from January 2010 onwards.
The ability to complete a Leaving Certificate standard award. Relevant work experience is an advantage coupled with life experience.
Assessment
A combination of module appropriate assessment procedures will facilitate the assessment of the programme learning outcomes. These methods will include a combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as project based assignments, collections of work and skills demonstrations.
Course Fees
This Business Studies certificate is delivered under the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) Courses are provided free for people receiving social welfare payments or benefits including medical cards, unemployment assistance, lone parent allowance etc and for people (either working or in the home) with a Junior Certificate or lower education.

The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. FETAC gives people the opportunity to gain recognition for learning in education or training centres, in the work place and in the community.
