Mountmellick Further Education Centre opened in June 1990. The Centre provides full-time and part-time year round educational programmes. Students from all over Laois travel to the Centre to further their education, confidence and life skills.
      
Mountmellick FEC offers 50 places on the Youthreach programme and also offers places to students on PLC courses and through the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI). Unique to Mountmellick FEC is an on-site Crèche that is provided for children of students attending Youthreach, VTOS and St. Canices STTC.
      
Mission Statement:
‘To provide a participant centred programme that encourages students and teachers to develop their talents fully and enable all to explore and develop to their potential in a challenging and safe environment’.
      
Curriculum Offered:
      
As part of the Youthreach programme Mountmellick FEC offers a variety of FETAC modules at Level 3 and Level 4, Junior Certificate and the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. Mountmellick FEC also offers FETAC accredited courses in Childcare at FETAC Levels 5 and 6 and Hairdressing at FETAC Level 5 for PLC students.

Back To Education Initiative (BTEI)
Opportunities are available for adults who wish to return to education on a part-time basis through the Back To Education Initiative or through the adult night class programme. BTEI courses are participant led and are provided in consultation with the needs of the local community.
      
Extra Curricular Activities:
      
There are a broad range of extra curricular activities available to students including the opportunity to participate in transnational trips, An Gaisce, The Presidents Award and Outdoor Pursuits.

There is also an active student council, student savings club and a book-lending scheme.
