In 1937 the school opened with an enrolment of 9 students and 3 classrooms. Extra classrooms were added to the building in 1965 and 1969. The Intermediate Certificate and Leaving Certificate examinations were held in the school for the first time in the early 1970s.

In 1989 a new building was erected providing extra general classrooms, special purpose rooms (Science, Construction, IT), gymnasium and offices. In 1996 an additional building to include three general purpose classrooms and a Science Room was erected.

In 2000 a Home Economics Room and Science Demonstration Room were added to above building giving an overall school accommodation of 25 rooms. The school now has a staff complement of 33 and an enrolment of 301 students.

St. Fergal’s College provides a well-rounded education for all its students. Its main focus is on academic achievements with an average 43% of students going to third level education, and 12% to PLC courses. Another 12% are apprenticed and 21% are directly employed.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Participation in extra curricular activities is actively encouraged. Examples include sport, student exchange programmes, Green Schools, quizzes and competitions, fund-raising for worthy causes and involvement with schemes such as the “The Writers in Schools” Project.
